Phuket is a very beautiful island set in the Andaman Sea, a little over an hours flying time from Bangkok. Phuket has stunning natural scenery, varying from steep cliffs, rain forests to some of the best golden sand beaches in the world, plus much interesting architecture. Diving and watersports are very popular.
Most of the gay nightlife is concentrated in the town of Patong, and most of that is located in the Paradise Complex at the front of the towering Paradise Hotel, but there are many other great places to visit, including Phuket Town which has some interesting architecture.
The beaches are clean, safe, and open, with lifeguard and tsunami warning stations in place. There are many good gay and gay friendly hotels to take care of you.
Getting Around
The songtao, a pickup truck with bench seats on the back, is the most usual form of public transport, with some metered taxis also available in some areas. Motorcycle taxis will take you short distances, but check the fare and be aware of accidents.
You can hire jeeps, cars or motorcycles (international driving licence usually required), but be sure to get 1st class insurance. Phuket has many steep hills with windy roads, and accidents are common.
Otherwise, try taking a tour from a local agent, to see the many sights of this beautiful jewel.
