Jomtien is located
across the hill from Pattaya and is rapidly becoming a gay center in
its own right, as many gay businesses set up shop near the famed
Dongtan Beach (see below), a great many located in the Jomtien Complex
near the beach.
Jomtien, with its cleaner beaches, and more upmarket feel, is a quick 10-15 minute
bus ride from the bustling but slighty sleazy resort town of Pattaya,
and is fast becoming the preferred place for many gays to spend their
time.
The only drawback is the traffic that clogs the main road across the
hill between Jomtien and Pattaya during peak holiday times. This road
is currently being expanded so expect hold ups due to the construction
work.
Direct air conditioned bus services operate between Bangkok and Jomtien
and good, gay, accommodation is available in Jomtien.

Getting Around
Transport around Jomtien is mainly by Songtao bus, a pickup
truck with seats down each side. They're also known by some as "Baht
Buses". You can flag one down and follow the fixed route, paying the
driver when you get off, or you can hire one for
the journey you want and negotiate the price.
Motorcycle taxis are
also widely available. Check the price first, and beware of accidents.
A public bus service
also now runs between Jomtien and Pattaya about every 20 minutes.
Car and motorcycle hire are readily available
too, but make sure you get 1st class insurance!

Dongtan Gay Beach
Dongtan beach at Jomtien has a large
and popular gay section. This long, gold, sand public beach is 15
minutes away from Pattaya town on the Jomtien seafront where the
Pattaya to Jomtien Road (Thappraya Road) meets the Beach Road. Look for
the police station on the seafront.
Turn right and walk along the beach for about 500 meters until you come
to the Avalon Beach Resort on the right. Opposite the end of that
resort is the area of this public beach that gays tend to use.
The 'gay' area of the beach can be very
popular, especially at weekends. Each section is operated by an
individual who will serve food and drinks all day. You pay the bill
when you leave, including a charge for using the deckchairs and
services.
The area is very busy
at weekends and some afternoons, and is very cruisy with lots of 'off
duty' bar boys showing off their bodies in minimal swim suits, plus
loads of other regular gay guys swimming and realxing. Closed at dusk.
No nudity or any kind
of sexual activity is allowed.
